Before I arrived the kids loved playing duck duck goose. Since they work so hard studying and meditating, and doing work around the monastery, they rarely had time to play, so "exercise class" was created where we taught them various games and we all ran around and then stretched together.
This is the woman who I tutored in English. This photo makes me seem sooooo white. :)
The English books that were brought by a visiting family were cherished. Some nuns just couldn't put them down!!
This is the gong that was rung before every puja (prayer/meditation). I woke up to this gong every morning at 4:30. The house in the background was where I slept.
English class being taught by Maya and Dawn. I now LOVE Clifford books!
On my last day, several nuns were hanging out and following me around. I was happy to have them with me!
Nimalamo the youngest nun, only 5 years old, was such a delightful child. She had an infectious grin and I miss her.
Looking for Buddha in Bigu Video
This video was made by a group that went to Bigu before me and although they took a jeep and some porters during the hike up and I hiked up the whole way without porters (they had a much larger group), it was a pretty similar experience to mine, so if you'd like to check out the 10 minute video on utube, some of the footage is beautiful.
